No matter what trim level you choose, the 2020 Compass comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive comes standard, but you can upgrade the Compass with all-wheel-drive if you choose. On the Trailhawk, all-wheel-drive is the standard. The vast majority of Compasses you come across will have either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Trims with front-wheel-drive come with the six-speed manual while the nine-speed automatic comes with all-wheel-drive trims.

Four trim levels are available for the 2020 Compass with each providing you with an ample amount of features. The base Sport comes with heated mirrors, automatic dual-zone climate control, and height-adjustable front seats. Tech features include a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a six-speaker sound system. Moving up to the Latitude gets you alloy wheels, roof rails, rear air vents, upgraded cloth and simulated leather seat upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and keyless ignition and entry. From here, the Compass splits into two separate trims that focus on luxury and off-road. For leisure, the Limited gets you remote engine start, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a color information display, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power driver's seat, heated front seats. Also coming standard are a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and a 115-volt household-style power outlet. More off-road features are available for the Trailhawk as it comes with off-road-oriented tires, a raised suspension, skid plates, and a Selec-Terrain system to help the Compass go over steep ascents and difficult surfaces. Depending on the trim level, the Compass also comes with a ton of available options. Some of these include a navigation system, a sunroof, a premium nine-speaker Alpine audio system, a power liftgate, and xenon headlights.

The Compass is ready for anything you throw at it with a bevy of safety and security features. Forward collision warning with active braking comes with sensors that are used to detect id your SUV is approaching another vehicle too quickly. You will then be alerted with audio and visual cues, and the Compass can also apply the brakes if necessary. Lane departure warning with lane keep assist provides you with audio and visual signals if it senses that your SUV is drifting. If you fail to respond, LaneSense will gently move your vehicle back into its lane. Finally, the adaptive cruise control system with stop and go, which automatically adjusts your driving speed to maintain a pre-selected distance between you and the traffic ahead. It can even bring the Compass to a complete stop if you fail to respond.
